I’m studying an MA in International Events Management. When studying towards my degree in Liverpool, I began my own club night. At first it was just a place for me and my friends to listen and dance to the music we liked, but as it grew in popularity we moved to a bigger venue and began to put on bands and DJs from all over the country.

The club night, which ran for four years, helped me to decide that events management was for me, and since I graduated I have been involved in many events, from music festivals to large charity events. I have decided to do an MA to gain some formal training and because of the great reputation Brighton has, it seemed like the perfect place to do it.

What does it involve?

Project management, risk assessment, event promotion and marketing, management training and techniques and looking at current trends within the events industry.

I currently work part time at the Careers Information Office at the University of Brighton. I provide students with careers information, refer people to our careers counsellors, update the website, analyse graduate destinations statistics and help to organise various careers events across the university. I am also working with a local events company, Triptych Events UK. We work with festivals and events, advising them on production, promotion and management of their events. We also run our own events, such as Brighton Stripped, an acoustic music night that runs in the Komedia (a music venue based in Brighton).

I really enjoy planning and managing all kinds of events, whether it be a music event, festival or a conference. There is a real sense of achievement when you have pulled off a successful event.

After finishing my Masters in September 2008, I would like to continue working with Triptych and helping to develop the company. I would also like to work on a large music festival based in Brighton or the south-east at some point in the next couple of years as well.I suppose the main thing will be to continue to develop my skills and knowledge base, which will put me in a strong position when I come to enter the job market as a full time event manager.
